today where my students will be paired with someone from Mrs. Kramer's
class and they will create a game board using a chapter out of the math
book. The students will design and create the game with their
partner. Today will be a planning and sketching day.

Students will finish their game and play it to
make sure that it works.

for Life Skills class.
We will read chapters 18 and 19 in The City of
Ember. Students will complete questions and do some journal
writing.
Tuesday, May 7th:
Today students will learn their partners from
Mrs. Kramer's class that they will be Book Buddies with. They will
choose a book that they want to read together. This book must be at
their reading level and an AR book because they can count those points
toward their April/May AR points. Students need 20 points by May
17th.
We will finish The City of Ember today and
students will complete a packet in partners and then take the AR test,
which will count toward those 20 points too.
Wednesday, May 8th:
Our school set a goal to read 1.5 million pages
and achieved it!!!! So that mean we will watch a movie today in
language arts class. The students want to watch The City of Ember.
They may bring something to drink (with a screw on lid) and a treat to
drink. The school is providing popcorn from the movie theater.
Thursday, May 9th:
We will meet with our Book Buddies and go through
the expectations, divide our books into sections, read the 1st assignment,
and complete an assignment on the setting of their novel. Students
will also choose 2 vocabulary words to define within the context of their
novel.

We will meet with our buddies to complete the day
2 reading, an assignment on making connections, and complete 2 new
vocabulary words. |

April 29th: Students will finish with
the pizza mini-unit today. They will complete the last 2 stations
and hand in all of their individual work.

activities to learn about earning, saving, and spending.

April 8th: Writing: We
will begin a new writing unit today. Students will write their own
personal narrative as we move through the unit. In a personal
narrative, the author writes about an event that happened in their life
and the learning that occurred from that event. We will read several
stories in this unit that the students will be able to relate to and some
that they will learn new things. This week our stories will come
from a book called Rattlesnake Mesa. It is a story about a
young Native American in the early 1900s. We will brainstorm a list
of our earliest memories in our Writer's Notebooks.
Speeches: Students will give their
demonstration speeches today.

speech to the class today. Students will have time to work on their

set up the reading schedule to read their chosen novel in 10 days.

setting today in our novels. After students read their 2nd

Oceans. Our goal is to learn about nonfiction text features to
help us read informational text. We will learn so new vocabulary
words from the story as well.
Wednesday, January 9th:
Students will complete DOL exercises for
Wednesday and the day 3 exercises for spelling. We will read another
section of Life in the Oceans today concentrating on more
nonfiction text features. We will also review the vocabulary words
we learned yesterday. Students will choose a nonfiction book to read
during this unit. They may choose any topic of book and may use the
book for their AR points as well. We will use this book throughout
this unit, identifying the text features within it.
Thursday, January 10th:
Students will complete the Thursday exercises for
DOL and the day 4 exercises for spelling. Students will hand in
their week 10 homework for spelling too. We will read a new article
on The Pony Express and identify the nonfiction text features in it.

the requirements for the project.

this week is to change a y at the end of a word to an I when adding a
suffix. We will go through our list, practice our words, and
students will receive their homework because of the short week. The
spelling test will be on Thursday.
Writing: We will write our final
copy of our poems called "A True Hero" in honor of our Veterans.
Reading: We will begin a new unit
today based on the book The Cay by Theodore Taylor. We will
read/listen to this book in class. Our spelling, vocabulary,
comprehension, and writing activities will all be centered around this
novel. Students will also have a test at the end of this unit.
As part of the test, students will take the AR test too. We will
begin the unit today with an activity called "Stranded" where students
will be given a list of items that they would have if they were stranded
on a deserted island. They will create a poster illustrating and
writing how each of these items would be used.

exaggerate it like the author of Bedhead did to make it funny.
October AR Expectations: There will
be 2 choices for AR this month. The first choice is students can
continue to read 10 AR points, choosing books at their level of reading
and taking the test on the computer. Or, students may read one AR
book, take the test (they have to pass it!) and then complete a project
called a Book Tie. I have gone through the expectations for the
project and students have seen examples and have a worksheet to plan out
their project, as well as a rubric as to how they will be graded.

Spelling: We will begin spelling
today. Our spelling program is called Guided Spelling. Its
approach is to practice a spelling skill out loud together in class.
So every day we will practice our words in class. On Tuesdays, there
will be a short homework assignment that will be due on Thursdays and the
tests will be on Fridays. Our skill this week is "Short Vowels;
Frequently Misspelled Words." So, we will practice those in
class today. I will always give the students the list on Mondays so
they can study at home too.
Reading: We will begin a new reading
unit today, which will include new vocabulary words. The students
will need a vocabulary notebook for class. Just a regular notebook
is fine, we don't need anything special. With the reading and
vocabulary, the students will learn the new vocabulary and I will read
aloud a story. The students will take vocabulary notes as we go
through the new words and will eventually have a quiz when we are done
with the unit. There will be some sort of activity that we do for
each story. It may be comprehension questions, an activity, or some
sort of writing. We will also have a reading partner that we will
work with through the whole unit. We will switch partners with each
unit. This will also go for our writing units as well.

each other and then they will bring these home to keep. We will
